...Flying Left Bank was pretty cool... sometimes. It had it moments. Got to do a lot of special ops all over the friggin country. Numerous side trips to Danang and Chu Lai and other places. I have a picture of me and one of the Miss America crew at a VIP chopper pad in Danang. (Attached) They had just done their show and were preparing to take off when we landed at this pad. Once we figured out what was going on I snuck around their Huey and had one of the girls... Miss New Jersey I think, autograph my flight helmet.
Another cool thing about being on the Left Bank crew, whenever we woke up in the morning and it was raining, I just went back to sleep 'cause we didn't fly in the rain. The last couple of months that I was at the 265th, I got the coveted job as company courier and doubled as the club manager. As the courier, I would shuttle classified packages between the 265th at Camp Eagle, our det at Camp Evans, the det at Quang Tri and the 8th field station. As the club manager, I would open the club every morning and count the beer. All things finally come to an end and I left Viet Nam on January 2, 1972 for stint at Vint Hill Farm... and that's another story for another time.
